Everyone has facial hair if you look close enough. It's called "peach fuzz" (how cute is that?!) because the soft, short hair resembles the furry skin of a peach. If you have light-colored hair, you may not even know it's there, but if you have dark hair, your peach fuzz might be more noticeable than you would like it to be. Removing or not removing your facial hair is a personal preference, but if you're considering facial hair removal, it's important to know your options.

There are tons of different facial hair removal methods for women, including laser hair removal, waxing, epilators, dermaplaning, and tweezing. As a Latina with dark, thick hair and light skin, I can assure you, I've tried them all. I've spent the last decade testing every at-home facial hair removal method with varying degrees of success. Some facial hair removal methods are quick and effective, but too painful to keep up with regularly. Others are less painful, but require more time each week to achieve the best results. All facial hair removal methods have their drawbacks, which is why it might take a few tries to find the one that works best for you.

Peep the best facial hair removal for women, below

Below, I've distilled a decade of self-experimentation into a comprehensive list of the best hair removal methods for women. Various other editors, testers, and dermatologists also helped, exploring new hair removal devices and old tried-and-tested methods to find the best ones for every facial hair type and concern. Finally, I pulled in a few experts to find out which methods they recommend the most to their clients with facial hair. Each method has its pros and cons, so finding the right one depends on your pain tolerance, budget, and how often you'll actually use it. Here are the best products for removing facial hair that you can do from the comfort of your own home.

Pros
  • Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (9)Affordable
  • Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (10)Comes with 12 razors, enough to last you a year before repurchasing
  • Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (11)
Cons
  • Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (12)Can leave behind small cuts if used improperly

Dermaplaning is by far my favorite way to get rid of any unwanted facial hair, but it does take some practice to do it right without cutting your face. If you're new to dermaplaning, it's basically just a fancy word for shaving your face with a single-blade razor. The razor removes the peach fuzz while also exfoliating the top layer of the skin, leaving it feeling super soft and smooth.

These facial razors feel light in your hand, which is helpful because you also want to use a light hand when shaving the face. A good rule of thumb is to use about half the pressure you use when you shave your legs when shaving the face. If you feel the blade cutting into your skin, you're doing too much. You want to gently graze the surface of your skin and let the blade do the work, not your hand.

We like that the blade is the perfect size to get in between your eyebrows and on the sides of your nose. It's sharp without being too dangerous for a dermaplaning newbie. These are essentially single use razors, so you may notice that the blade gets dull after one to two uses, but it comes in a pack of 12 so one pack should last you six to 12 months. The trick to getting a close shave is to hold the razor a slight angle while pulling the skin taut. Once you get the hang of it, dermaplaning takes less than five minutes and is definitely the best pain-free facial hair removal method we've come across.

Rave Review: "I have tried a few different kinds of razors like this to get rid of unwanted face hairs and these are by far the best. Sharp enough to get rid of the coarser hairs but not sharp enough to hurt or irritate your skin. Perfect!"

Iluminage Touch Permanent Hair Reduction System

Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (13)

Pros
  • Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (14)Hair grows back fine after the first few uses before it's gone forever
  • Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (15)Works across a range of skin tones and hair colors
Cons
  • Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (16)Expensive compared to competitors

If you want to permanently get rid of your facial har, laser hair removal is the way to go. Yes, it's expensive, but it's still less than what you would pay a professional for laser hair removal, and you can do it from home. Not only does this laser har removal machine work on your face, but also your entire body. It basically pays for itself after a few uses. (Girl math, amiright?!)

Based on our own testing, we found that it's been effective on the widest range of hair colors, including blond, dark blond and red hair. Many hair removal devices use either Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) or Radio Frequency (RF) to remove unwanted hair, but this one combines both for maximum results.

It does take time to see results, so you have to commit to setting aside up to 15 minutes each week for two months to see a real reduction in hair growth, but trust us, your patience will be rewarded. Once the hair is gone, it's gone for good. If you struggle with dark, fast-growing facial hair, this hair removal method is worth every penny.

Rave Review: "I've been using this for five weeks and am very pleased with the results. My leg hair is growing so slowly and it's so sparse that I can shave once a week, whereas before I was shaving daily. Even then, very little hair is left to shave."

Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (18)

Pros
  • Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (19)Quick and effective at removing unwanted hair
  • Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (20)Travel friendly
Cons
  • Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (21)Leaves behind a sticky residue (which can easily be removed with an oil-based makeup rremover)
  • Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (22)May irritate sensitive skin

Waxing is one of the best and longest lasting hair removal methods, and with these strips, it doesn't have to be painful. This compact tin contains 12 strips (24 total wax strips) and a tube of post-wax aloe cream to help soothe any post-wax inflammation. You just warm strips up in your hands to activate the wax, press it against your peach fuzz, and let 'er rip.

We found these strips extremely easy to use and less painful than other waxing methods. Make sure the wax is melted and easy to separate before applying the strip to your skin. We like to use a blow dryer to help heat up the wax. This ensures that the adhesive attaches to the all the little hairs. When it comes time to remove the wax strip, you have to COMMIT. Press your lips together to pull the skin taut and pull the strip off in a swift motion.

One of the biggest benefits of waxing is that it actually removes the hair at the root, giving you smooth skin for up to a month. We prefer using these wax strips on our upper lip, which often grows in darker than the other hair on our face. It does leave your face slightly red, so we recommend waxing at night before you go to bed so your skin has time to calm down.

Rave Review: "So easy to use! I have sensitive skin and had ZERO irritation! Absolutely buying again!!"

Best Dermaplaning Device

Dermaflash Luxe+ Device

If the idea of taking a sharp razor to your face scares you, this smart dermaplaning device will ease your concerns. It removes every trace of peach fuzz and dead skin instantly and safely. We love the way it feels in our hand, and it's very easy to hold and maneuver in different areas of the face. Dermaflash recommends that you change the blade after every use, which makes it a bit pricey to use if you follow a weekly dermaplaning routine, but the convenience and safety of this device is worth the steep price. It's like having a professional facialist at your fingertips! If you’re someone who gets dermaplanning done professionally, this device will give you the same results and save a lot of money.

Rave Review: "This electric dermaplane tool is the most powerful at-home hair removal device I've ever tried. It removes peach puzz and dead skin cells off the top layer of skin, revealing a bright, porcelain complexion underneath. It's so easy to use and never leaves me with knicks or scratches." — Lily Wohlner, WH Associate Fashion and Commerce Editor.

Cons
  • Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (30)Can pinch your skin if you don't pull it taut

Facial hair removal can be quite painful, which is why we prefer methods that get the job done quickly. We like this device because it has a large, flat shaving surface and a light that helps you see what you're doing. A lot of other tools can cause irritation, especially around the the upper lip area, that occasionally turns into acne. This shaver gave us zero irritation and quickly removed any unwanted hair in a single pass without causing any pain or discomfort at all. The shaver head does have a tendency to get clogged after a few uses, which can be prevented if you wipe it down with alcohol after every use. We reach for this device multiple times per week to keep our skin smooth and it always glides over the skin effortlessly and without leaving it red and raw.

Rave Review: "I've been using this hair removal tool for years and it's the most effective one I've found for removing stubborn upper lip and chin hairs. While it's too big to remove hair on my brows, it's awesome for those larger areas of the face when you're short on time and want to look smooth and stubble-free" — Lily Wohlner, WH Associate Fashion and Commerce Editor.

If you've ever pulled down the mirror in broad daylight and faced your own five o'clock shadow coming in early, this device is a real life-saver. Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (36)

Pros
  • Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (37)Safe for sensitive skin
  • Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (38)Long-lasting results
Cons
  • Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (39)Getting the correct sugar wax consistency can be difficult
  • Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (40)Not meant to be used around your eyebrows or hairline

Sugar wax is said to be less irritating than regular waxing because the sugar only sticks to the har, not the skin. We found this sugar wax roller was far less painful than hard wax and even easier to apply. After heating up the roller in the microwave, you apply the stick directly to the area you want waxed, lay down a strip, and pull it off in the opposite direction of the hair growth. The fabric strips are a little big to use on your face, especially on the upper lip, but if you cut them in half, they work perfectly. We found that if we didn't get a good grip on the strip, we ended up missing some hairs and had to go in again with a fresh swipe of sugar wax. With some practice, our technique improved over time and soon enough it only took us five minutes to wax the lower half of our face.

Rave Review: "I’ve tried a bunch of different brands when doing so but this one is BY FAR the BEST wax I have ever purchased. The bottle makes it extremely easy to reach hard places and did not irritate my extremely sensitive skin. I have keratosis pilaris and if anything made it less visible. Everyone's skin is different, but I highly recommend purchasing if your skin is used to wax already and if you want to save a couple hundred bucks every couple of weeks!"

Best Epilator

Braun Face Epilator Facespa Pro 911

Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (41)

Pros
  • Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (42)Removes coarse and fine hair
  • Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (43)Great for quick maintence
Cons
  • Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (44)Takes time and multiple passes to get rid of every single hair

This 3-in-1 device is so much more than just an epilator. It comes with three detachable heads: a toning head that allows for better application of skincare products, a cleansing head to deep clean your pores while removing every last trace of makeup, and an epilator head to catch and remove even the tiniest of facial hairs. At under $100, it's worth it just for the epilator alone. The small epilator head has 10 micro-openings and is the perfect size for targeting any area of the face. It feels like the tiniest little pinch–nothing too unbearable.

Rave Review: "I'll never go back to any other removal method. It's fast, effective, and not that painful at all. I'm used to removing hair from the roots anyway, and while it does sting a bit, it's over fast, and I get zero irritation. No more messy waxing, no more time-consuming plucking. I just wish I'd figured this out a long time ago!"

Cons
  • Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (49)Not effective for grooming large areas of the face

If you just have a few problem hairs on your face, a good pair of tweezers are all you need. This set comes with four equally sharp tools with varying head shapes and sizes to expertly remove that one extra long hair growing on your chin (IYKYK). Keep one pair in your bathroom, one in your purse, one in your car, and one extra on hand for whenever you misplace a pair. This set is a great complement to another more comprehensive facial hair removal method like dermaplaning or waxing. Some hairs grow faster than others, so we like to use this in the days or weeks between our primary hair removal method to keep our face hairs in check. Sharp enough to grab even the tiniest of hairs, these tweezers are a facial grooming must-have.

Rave Review: "These tweezers really work! They grab even the shortest and lightest facial hairs. They come in a sturdy protective case to help prevent accidentally changing the angle and to help keep the tweezers clean."

R.E.M Spring Facial Hair Remover

Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (50)

Pros
  • Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (51)Removes many hairs quickly
  • Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (52)Won't make you breakout
Cons
  • Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (53)Not very precise

This little handheld device is better, faster, and less painful than using tweezers. It takes some practice to get the hang of, but once you do, it quickly removes all the hair on your face – even the near invisible tiny ones – in just a few minutes. All you have to do is bend the spring into a "U" shape and twist the handles inward and outward while moving the device up and down against your skin. There's no mess, no chemicals, and no risk of irritating or cutting your skin. It feels like little pin pricks, and we found that it's most painful above the lip and at the corners of the mouth. It doesn't hurt nearly as bad as waxing or epilating, but you are ripping the hair out at the root, so you can expect that the first time will sting. But the more you use this, the less painful it becomes, so stick it out!

This device is great for removing unwanted hair in a large area, but it's not very precise. The spring pulls out any hair in its path, so we suggest avoiding the area around your eyelashes, eyebrow and hairline. You can use the spring on the forehead, but only in the center, away from any hair that you don't want to remove.

Braun IPL Long-lasting Laser Hair Removal Device

Pros
  • Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (55)Effectively slows hair re-growth
  • Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (56)Less painful than professional lasers
Cons
  • Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (57)Not effective on deep/dark skin tones

Another one of our favorite laser hair removal devices is this one from Braun. We like this model because it features three modes (normal, gentle, extra gentle) for a comfortable and efficient lasering experience, even in sensitive areas like the face. If you're new to laser hair removal, the sensitive skin mode provides a virtually pain-free session, perfect for first-time users. It comes with four device heads to use across your entire body, including two precision heads ideal for the chin and upper lip. Many reviewers say they saw visible results in three uses or less, and once you complete the recommended seven sessions, the results last for nearly a year before having to do any touch up sessions.

Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (58)

Pros

  • Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (60)Can use across your entire body, not just your face
Cons
  • Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (61)Painful
  • Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (62)Large head makes removing facial hair tricky

Epilators work similarly to tweezing, except instead of one tweezer grabbing a single hair, an epilator is like 40 tweezers grabbing just as many hairs in every stroke. Like tweezing, the results can last for up to a month, which is great for those whose hairs grow back too quickly for dermaplaning.

For some people, epilation can be quite painful. We like this device because it's waterproof so you can use it in the bath or shower, which sometimes lessens the sting. The wide head removes hairs as short as 0.5 millimeters and makes quick work out of eliminating hairs on our sideburns and upper lip. It definitely takes some getting used to and it's not painless, but it is faster than using tweezers. and delivers similar results.

Rave Review: "For someone with a lot of hair, it is a lifesaver. It will hurt because it is removing hairs from the roots. It is a one-time purchase that saves you money and allows you to remove hair whenever and wherever you choose."

  • Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (64)Painless and easy to apply
  • Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (65)Removes every hair in under 10 minutes
Cons
  • Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (66)Smells like rotten eggs

The tube may look like a lip balm, but it's actually a fast-acting hair removal cream. It's formulated specifically for the face with sensitive skin in mind. This hair removal cream provides a painless hair removal solution–no plucking, pulling, or shaving required. It contains almond and calendula oils to soothe and soften the skin. It works in just four minutes, but if you have extra stubborn hair, you can leave it on for as much as 10 minutes. The worst thing about this hair removal method is the pungent smell, which is especially potent if you apply the solution to get rid of the hair on your upper lip. However, for some people, suffering through the stench for a few minutes is a fair trade-off for a painless hair removal experience.

Rave Review: "I leave it on my upper lip for 10 minutes (absolutely no less) then wash off gently with a wet face cloth. Many other facial depilatory creams have left my skin irritated and almost bruised in its appearance, but not this."

  • Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (69)Gentle on the skin
Cons
  • Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (70)Leaves some hairs behind

This funny-looking hair removal device went viral on TikTok, but does it really work? We tried it and found that it was easier and faster than using tweezers, but definitely less precise. It's all in the twist, which is what actually grabs the hair between the springs and pulls it out. It's great for areas like the chin and the sides of the face, but it can be tricky to maneuver it in the space between your lips and your nose. It can be tedious at times, but it is a better alternative to tweezing every single hair individually.

Rave Review: "It took a little bit to figure out how to twist it correctly, but once I did I’m really happy with the results. It's a great way to keep my peach fuzz in check with no need for expensive waxing."

This hair removal cream is a great solution for those who suffer from Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and experience increased facial hair growth as a side effect. What is the best way to remove facial hair from a woman's face?

Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (76)

There are many factors to consider in choosing the best hair removal method for any individual," says dermatologist Blair Murphy-Rose, MD. "Ultimately some of the major considerations include hair color, skin color, and the density of hair." Here are a few of the best and most common ways to remove hair from a woman's face:

Waxing
Waxing is a quick and effective way to remove large amounts of hair at once. Any area of your body can be waxed, including your face. Waxing provides four to six weeks of hair-free skin and some people even say regular waxes makes their hair more fine and soft. "Waxing with a reputable provider can be safely performed, although risks include skin irritation, redness, burning, scarring, discoloration," says Dr. Murphy-Rose. "Because waxing pulls hairs at the root, this method of hair removal lasts longer than some others like dermaplaning or shaving." Though she notes that waxing may make your skin more susceptive to ingrown hairs compared to dermaplaning.

Dermaplaning
Like we explained above, dermaplaning is similar to shaving in that you utilize a blade to effectively remove hair and dead skin. Many people prefer dermaplaning as a facial hair removal method because it smoothes the appearance of their skin. Though if you're not super experienced with this method, Dr. Murphy-Rose advises to go see a licensed professional for treatment. "Potential risks include skin irritation and nicks, which can increase the risk of infection," she says. "Dermaplaining essentially cuts the hairs at the level of the epidermis, so they are likely to grow back sooner compared to laser hair removal or waxing."

Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal uses highly concentrated light to penetrate hair follicles and inhibit future hair growth. This method works best on people who have light skin and dark hair; particularly those with thick, coarse and unruly dark chin/upper lip and sideburn hair. While laser hair removal isn't exactly permanent, it can effectively slow hair growth.

Though one note: dermatologists we spoke with say these gadgets are great for in-between in-office laser hair removal appointments, doctors say you should visit a board-certified dermatologist for a professional treatment plan. "Tell your doctor your ethnicity so they can recommend the right laser for your skin type," dermatologist Jeanine Downie, MD, previously told WH. "You want to receive the right treatment that does not harm your skin."

How to choose the best facial hair removal product

Shoppers Say These Hair Removal Tools Got Rid Of Their Mustaches "Completely" (77)

Removing facial hair is perfectly normal, but like any other part of your skincare or grooming routine, it's something you have to commit to if you want to maintain your results. The best method for removing facial hair is the one you'll consistently use. If you want to get rid of facial hair permanently, consider laser hair removal, which is more expensive and requires consistency up front but pays off in the long term. Shaving or dermaplaning your skin can be quick, easy, and affordable, but it only cuts the hair at the level of the skin, so you might yourself having to repeat the process every one to two weeks. Epilating and waxing deliver longer lasting results but are two of the more painful hair removal methods. Pick a facial hair removal method that works with your budget and lifestyle.
