The Baltimore Ravens defeated the Tennessee Titans on Sunday in London 24-16. Here are the grades that I am giving each major category of the offense. For the full recap, check out John Pfiefer’s full recap here: Ravens Sack the Titans in London
Quarterback: A-
This week was a much-improved week for Lamar Jackson throwing the ball to his receivers. Lamar started the day off scorching hot. completing his first 7 passes of the game. The main reason for the A- is due to Lamar having that “Takeover game.” Even though the Baltimore Ravens offense only scored one touchdown. Lamar once again put his receivers in position to make the plays they were supposed to make. Also, using his legs this week to add to an already impressive game. The interception thrown by Lamar was a blimp. Lamar Jackson went 21/30, 223 yards and one interception. Also adding 62 yards on the ground which Jackson led the team in rushing. His A- grade is for the poise that Jackson showed during the game, putting the offense in position to get points by any means on Sunday.
Running Backs: C+
This Ravens running back room has their moments when it can be deadly. But Sunday’s win was a low for the group. The running backs had a combine 24 carries for 76 yards on the ground Sunday vs a Titans team that are pretty good against the run. It felt like the Ravens would run the ball inside the 25-yard line on Sunday. Which can skew the averages a bit due to the shortness of the field and the reputation of this Ravens team under John Harbaugh running the football in the redzone. Take out Jackson 62 yards on the ground. The Ravens rushed for an average of 4.8 yards on the ground. The C+ grade is for the inconsistent rushing attack for the Baltimore Ravens. Also, coaching should be a bit of the blame as well for this.
Wide Receiver/Tight End: B+
One Phrase: “What a difference a week make.” Last week, the Baltimore Ravens Wide Receiver couldn’t catch a pass if they were in the middle of Antarctica. This week the Ravens Wide Receiver group caught nearly every ball thrown their way on Sunday vs the Tennessee Titans. Mark Andrews hauled in a 38-yard catch in the 4th quarter. Nelson Agholor almost took a screen pass to the endzone before he was tripped up, and Odell Beckham Jr. turned back the clock and caught a slant pass that went for 32-yards. I believe the message was very clear this week at practice. concentrated catches. The Wide Receiver hauled in 21 catches for 223 yards. That number easily could’ve been more impressive if Todd Monken threw the ball in the redzone more. B+ because the Ravens receivers got back on track this week vs a bad passing defense in Tennessee.
Offensive Line: A
The Baltimore Ravens offensive line was on point Sunday afternoon in London. The Ravens offensive line didn’t allow nobody to get to Lamar Jackson. They picked up every assignment, whether it was a blocking assignment or being aggressive up front. This line showed that they if they work hard enough and be physical week in and week out. They can be the best offensive line unit in the NFL. They were aggressive at the point of attack, helping Lamar keep his White Jersey stay White. The Titans defensive stat sheet was very clean after Sunday with the Ravens lineman only allowing one sack, one quarterback hit against Jackson. That’s pretty impressive coming off a bad outing vs. The Pittsburgh Steelers when they allowed six quarterback hits and sacked four times. They were awarded an A this week because they kept Lamar clean in the pocket, being more aggressive up front, and overall mindset to be better up in week 6 vs Tennessee.
The Baltimore Ravens drastically changed this past Sunday from last week in a good way by catching passes and keeping Lamar Jackson clean in the pocket. But, however, the Ravens offense has to learn how to finish more constantly in the redzone. This offense, the first 3 games of the season were amazing finishing drives and scoring touchdowns. I don’t know if it’s either a coaching issue or an execution issue, but it needs to change quickly. The Ravens have a high-powered offense coming to Baltimore this Sunday in the Detroit Lions. They are going have to do better in the redzone by executing if they want to come away victorious vs The Detroit Lions next Sunday afternoon.
