Note: If you want more of the fun grains you can replace part of the white flour with more graham flour or add a T of gluten… or enjoy eating a flatter loaf.

Directions to make Lazy Woman Homemade bread

Step 1

In the order listed above, mix with a dough hook in a large mixing bowl. Mix ingredients well. The dough will look wet compared to traditional bread dough at this stage.

Step 2

Dump the mixture into a 10q food safe tub and cover.

Step 3

Let the bread dough sit on the counter for an hour or two until it rises nearly to the lid.

Step 4

Then refrigerate.

Step 5

Take dough out as needed to bake. The dough will keep for over a week in the refrigerator.

Step 6

I usually let the bread sit for about twenty minutes before baking to reactivate the yeast and that will give you the time to pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees.

Step 7

Bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes or until the bread looks golden.

Also, for a crusty taste, bake it simultaneously with a pot of water in the oven.

Recipe Notes:

  • While it may be tempting to cut the bread when hot or warm, don’t. The steam finishes the cooking process and releasing it prematurely will result in gummy and sticky bread.
  • Wait until the bread is room temperature before cutting.
  • You can use bread flour, all purpose flour, any of your favorite flours in this recipe. But understand it will change the texture and flavor each time.
  • The top of your bread should be golden brown
  • Make sure your oven racks are in the middle so it can cook properly, but don’t put them too close together so there is room for the rising bread.

What Do I Bake My Bread In?

You can use loaf pans or you can use a Dutch oven making a round bread with a score on the top like we did. It looks like artisan bread. Regardless one or the other will work depending on what kind of loaf you want.

Do I Need To Grease My Bread Pans?

Yes, lightly use cooking spray, or butter from wrappers, or use a piece of parchment paper to avoid your bread sticking and tearing to the pan.

Active Dry Yeast vs Instant Yeast

When choosing what kind of yeast you want to use will dependent on how much work you want to put into something. There are some sourdough starters, but that is for sourdough bread and not needed here (that requires a lot of other work).

However, for this bread I would suggest instant yeast. Active dry yeast has to be activated properly before being added to your dough, whereas instant yeast can be incorporated into the mixture.

Toppings For Your Homemade Bread

You followed the instructions and now you have homemade bread. And this bread is great for things like sandwiches, grilled cheese, toast, bruschetta, and more! But there are other things you can put on it like:

  • Butter
  • Honey
  • Jams/Jelly
  • Marshmallow Fluff
  • Dip it in olive oil with garlic, herbs, and kosher salt
  • Nutella
  • Dip in melted butter
  • Seed Butters
