The Eagles capitalized on a sloppy display by the 49ers to punch their ticket to Super Bowl 57, defeating San Francisco 31-7 on Sunday in Philadelphia.
It was a wretched day for the Niners, who saw quarterback Brock Purdy leave the game on their opening drive with an elbow injury. Purdy was replaced by Josh Johnson, who had flashes but couldn't quite replicate Purdy's production. Johnson was knocked out of the game with a concussion, forcing a compromised Purdy to return.

Philadelphia was propelled by its run game and stifling defense. Miles Sanders, Boston Scott and Jalen Hurts all found the end zone on the ground, while Kenneth Gainwell proved effective as a runner and receiver.
A muffed snap that led to an Eagles touchdown before the end of the second quarter put San Francisco on the back foot. And after Johnson took a shot to the helmet at the beginning of the third quarter, things became even more difficult.
Purdy looked a shell of himself when he returned, completing just one pass in the second half. Coach Kyle Shanahan stayed with the rookie for as long as possible, but the Eagles' defense wasn't fooled. Loading up the box on nearly snap, Philly put the clamps on the 49ers' run game. If not for a sparkling performance from Christian McCaffrey, who somehow netted over 100 yards from scrimmage, the score could've looked that much worse.

5:20 p.m.:Charvarius Ward with a wonderful deflection on the lofted pass, preventing the gaudy completion. Punt team headed on the field.
5:17 p.m.:Gainwell making serious plays in the flat, darting past Greenlaw to get the first. He's doing quite decently in limited touches today.
5:09 p.m.:Shanahan putting his faith in Purdy on the second drive of the half. However, it doesn't look like he's got much strength in his elbow after suffering his ailment earlier in the game.

4:22 p.m.:Gainwell, fresh off his first career 100 yard game last week, is making plays. He gets the first on third down, then follows is up with a darting run into San Francisco's secondary on the following plays. Philadelphia is back in the red zone as the whistle is blown for two minute warning.

4:05 p.m.:Johnson-McCaffrey connection comes up trump for San Francisco once more, with the third-stringer finding the dual-threat tailback on the slant. If he caught it more cleanly, he could've gotten some real yardage. However, he was tripped up right as he reached the marker.
Still, decent drive for the 49ers so far.
4:04 p.m.:Screen play to McCaffrey proves effective, taking the 49ers right to the cusp of the first down marker. With Purdy still out the game, it looks like we'll be seeing a steady diet of McCaffrey.
4:00 p.m.:Another pass goes astray for Hurts as Philadelphia is forced to punt.
3:59 p.m.:Hurts avoids the the safety just barely, leaning over his opposition end zone before going downs after getting cracked by Bosa. Niners defense is locked in.
3:54 p.m.:Johnson looking shaky in his first few drives. Multiple penalties up front as the Niners are forced to boot the ball back to the Eagles yet again. Have to wonder if Purdy is close to returning at this point.

3:48 p.m.:After a lengthy review involving a wire, Johnson takes the field and slips a pass to Samuel, who takes it nine yards before being forced to the turf. Good way to end the quarter for the San Francisco backup.
3:43 p.m.:Hurtsjustmisses Brown, who was streaking down the field. Lots of green grass in front of him. Unfortunate for Philly, who will punt the ball back to San Fran.
3:40 p.m.:Hurts zips the ball to Brown on the screen, who darts past the marker to move the chains on first.
3:38 p.m.:Another three and out for the Niners, who are in a bit of a precarious position with Purdy on the sideline. Looks like Nick Bosa is also being tended to on the bench. Things go from bad to worse for San Francisco.
3:35 p.m.:Reddick with another sack, this time on Josh Johnson, who replaced Purdy after the rookie RB suffered a wrist injury on the first Reddick sack. Looked like he ripped the ball out of Jackson's grasp on the dismount. Referees ruled otherwise, though.
3:30 p.m.:49ers force the three and out to get the ball back.
3:25 p.m.: FUMBLE!Haason Reddick knocks the ball out of Purdy's hands, sending it rolling into the turf. Picked up by an Eagles defender, who scoops it up. Initially ruled as an incompletion but it was overturned, giving the ball back to Philly.
